Construction and Materials
The product is a type of lumber and engineered wood from All-Coast Forest Products. Based on the provided categories, the specific product could fall into a wide range of offerings, including hardwoods, dimension lumber, softwoods, and various engineered wood products such as I-Joists, LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber), Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber), rimboard, posts, OSB (Oriented Strand Board), and plywood. Additionally, treated lumber, treated plywood, and patterned wood products are available.
The construction and materials used would vary significantly depending on the specific product chosen from All-Coast Forest Products' extensive catalog.
For **dimension lumber and softwoods**, the primary material is typically solid wood from coniferous trees. The construction involves cutting logs into standardized sizes for framing and construction purposes.
**Hardwoods** are derived from deciduous trees and are generally denser and stronger than softwoods. Their construction would also involve milling logs into usable lumber dimensions, often used for flooring, cabinetry, and furniture.
**Engineered wood products** are constructed using wood fibers, veneers, or strands that are bonded together with adhesives. This process often creates products that are stronger, more stable, and can be manufactured in larger dimensions than traditional solid lumber.
* **I-Joists**: These are typically constructed with flanges made from solid sawn lumber or laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and a web made from OSB or plywood. The I-shape provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio.
* **LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber)**: Constructed by bonding together multiple layers of thin wood veneer with adhesives under heat and pressure. This results in a strong, stable product that is often used for beams, headers, and edge-formed components.
* **Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber)**: Made by bonding together individual laminations of solid lumber with structural adhesives. This process allows for the creation of large, custom-shaped structural members like beams and arches.
* **Rimboard**: Typically constructed from structural composite lumber (SCL) or oriented strand board (OSB), designed to be used around the perimeter of floor or roof systems.
* **OSB (Oriented Strand Board)**: Made from compressed layers of wood strands mixed with adhesives. The strands are oriented in specific directions within each layer, providing strength and stiffness.
* **Plywood**: Constructed from thin layers of wood veneer that are glued together with the grain of each layer oriented at right angles to the adjacent layers. This cross-graining provides stability and strength.
**Treated Lumber and Treated Plywood** undergo a process where wood preservatives are forced deep into the wood under pressure. This treatment enhances resistance to decay, fungal growth, and insect infestation, making them suitable for outdoor or ground-contact applications.
**Pattern Lumber** refers to wood that has been milled with specific profiles or decorative patterns on its surfaces, often used for molding, trim, or paneling. The material is typically solid wood, and the construction involves specialized milling machinery.
